Are You Too Comfortable?

How do you know when you are getting too comfortable in your business? When your sales stagnate and you stop gaining clients. The good news is that the fastest way to get out of stagnant sales is to get out of your comfort zone. The bad news-you have to get out of your comfort zone.

Let’s face it, it’s hard to get out of the comfort zone. I don’t know anyone that gets up and says, “I can’ t WAIT to get out of my comfort zone today!” But if you want to significantly increase your sales, then you don’t have a choice. And the more you get out of your comfort zone, the more it will feel like your “new normal”. The more it feels normal, the easier it will be to continue to increase your sales.

You know, at a deep level, that there are great opportunities available to you at any time. Right now, you can probably even think of a few of them that you have hesitated on following up with because they are just outside your comfort zone. What would happen if you lived outside of your comfort zone for just a week? Or even, just a day?

In our 3-Day Selling with Intention Intensive course, my clients live out of their comfort zone for three days straight. That’s why, by day three, they are prepared and ready to make phone calls to their top prospects and actually get appointments. Our Quantum Leap students begin to create habits of living outside of their comfort zone because they are in a program that helps them stay in that mindset. Creating that type of support for yourself is key in growing your sales.

I don’t live outside my comfort zone as much as I’d like, but I am conscious of when I am there and when I am not. For me, public speaking was one of the most difficult things for me to do in my late teens, then into my college years and even once I was speaking professionally. It was so far outside of my comfort zone that I would have anxiety for weeks (I’m not kidding, you can ask my husband). Eventually, it became normal, but it doesn’t mean that I still don’t have fear, I just have the strategies and questions to work through it and do it anyway.

I want to share some of the strategies and questions that I used that help me stay out of my comfort zone, and I hope they will help you too:

· First, ask yourself what you really want? What are your sales goals? What do you want to achieve?

· Then, ask what is stopping you from reaching those sales goals? What is outside of your comfort zone?

· Notice the fears that show up for you. What are they really saying? Could you just take one step out of your comfort zone? Sometimes we don’t move forward because it seems overwhelming, but if you just focus on the next step, it is much more achievable.

· Then, allow the next step to reveal itself. Then take it!

Action Item: Choose your greatest sales stretch goal. Then take yourself through the process listed above.

Life out of your comfort zone is never easy. However, when you push through the discomfort, you truly can reach your greatest sales goals! Take the first step and the rest of the steps will reveal themselves. Be gentle with yourself, but be persistent. “Nothing in this world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful people with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proberb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determiniation alone are omnipotent. The slogan “press on” has sloved and always will solve the problems of the human race.” Calvin Coolidge
