The 3 Things You Aren’t Doing that Could Increase Your Sales

Increase Your Sales

Do you ever feel like you are doing everything possible to increase your sales, but they just aren’t going up? I hear this frequently from clients and I want you to consider that it might not be what you are doing, but rather what you are not doing, that is stopping you.

I’ve been teaching and coaching Sales Professionals and Entrepreneurs for many years. During that time, I have heard every excuse in the book related to the lack of sales growth in someone’s business. I am just being honest, I sometimes get stuck in excuses as well and they can be paralzying.

Upon analysis of their sales efforts, there are usually three key things that stand out related to their inability to reach their goals. And I am going to share them with you in a minute.

Before I do that, though, I want you to clear your mind and open it up to possibilities because when I share these ideas with you, your ego is going to want to protect you.
When your ego gets in the way, trying to keep you safe from hearing the truth, you will say things like, “Right, I know that already and that’s not me.” Instead, I want you to just consider if even one of these ideas is showing up somewhere in your life.

Take a deep breath…

The three things that I believe keep many people from increasing their sales:

You don’t have clear goals
Whenever I deliver sales training, I am surprised to see people thinking deeply about their sales goals. “The Numbers” as I refer to them. That tells me that either they haven’t ever thought about the numbers or they aren’t 100% sure of what they want to achieve. Crystal clarity in your sales goals is key. Without that, you have nothing to aim for. You might have a little bit of success, but you will never reach that “Big Number” you think about right before you drift off to sleep at night!

You haven’t made a commitment
Most people think they have made a commitment to their success, but it always seems like they have one foot in and one foot out. Or even one toe in! But they are leaving the door open “in case this doesn’t work out”.

You simply can’t do that. If you want to reach your sales goals, you MUST let go of the other “what ifs” and concentrate completely on the goal at hand. If you don’t, you will never reach your full sales potential in this position or your company will never grow to the level that it could.

You haven’t learned to believe in yourself
The epidemic in the world today, to me, is that people don’t believe in themselves. Instead, they believe in whatever those “little voices” say inside their heads or what others have told them they could or could not achieve in their lives. Here is the question to ask yourself, “How much would I sell if I believed in myself 100%?” Notice what answer comes up for you. It’s time to change that old belief and start believing in who you already are—ENOUGH! Say it with me, “I am enough!”

Do any of these resonate with you? If you feel even a grain of truth in any of them, I want you to look deeper and see how not doing that “thing” is keeping you from growing your sales.

Action Item: Take out a pen and a piece of paper. Write each item down on the paper. Next to it, list any ways in which the item might be showing up for you.

There is no better time than right now, in a “down” economy to grow your sales. The key is to be aware of what you are doing and what you aren’t doing and adjust as you go!

What AREN’T you doing that is holding you back?
