This “STUFF” Really Works! 6 Simple Steps to Release a Limiting Belief and Sell More

keysuccessWhat if your limiting beliefs are stopping you from achieving the sales results you really desire?

What if you could change them?

Following the last Sales Camp, I received an email from one of the attendees who shared an incredible success story and closed with these four words: This “stuff” really works! She used a different word than stuff, but I will leave that to your imagination.

I chuckled with glee when I read her last line because it’s true. Whenever my clients leave Sales Camp, they are usually thrilled with the results and cannot believe what is happening so easily for them now.

And that’s the key—sales begin to just “show up” and the Sales Campers move from a place of “struggle” to one of ease and flow. Tony Robbins says, “If you develop the absolute sense of certainty that powerful beliefs provide, then you can get yourself to accomplish virtually anything, including those things that other people are certain are impossible.”

Now, does everyone always flow that quickly? No. Sometimes a client can be in a space of such desperation and fear that they aren’t able to see the opportunities that are immediately around them. They may need additional private coaching or even to come back to Sales Camp again. For you see, when you are in fear and you have a lot of judgment going on about everyone and everything around you, it’s simply your ego keeping you safe because you might not want to see the truth in your situation.

Whenever you want to reach a higher level in your business or as a human being, you must let go of how you HAVE been “being,” so you can BECOME who you know you are. For some, that might sound like a lot of new age hooey, but it’s the truth. It’s the same with beliefs. You cannot take on a new belief if you are holding on desperately to the limiting beliefs you have.

For example, if you believe there aren’t enough clients out there for you, too, then you are correct. If you believe that people aren’t going to pay you what you are worth, then you are correct. If you believe you aren’t a good salesperson and never will be, then you are correct. If you believe you are “pushy,” you are. Remember, that’s because whatever you believe to be true will be true for you. When you change that limiting belief, and it’s no longer true for you, then you can experience new success stories.

You have to be ready to let go of your limiting beliefs, even if they have kept you safe, if you are going to get to the next level in your business and in your life.

My heart breaks when I see people desperately holding on to limiting beliefs that no longer serve them, especially when they are in so much judgment about what everyone else is doing wrong. I know that the principles of Selling with Intention work. But if someone is committed to being right, and they aren’t open to coaching or they believe they cannot succeed, then I cannot help them.

However, if they are committed to letting go of their old limiting beliefs and if they are ready to take on new beliefs, then I can help them achieve whatever they desire. But they have to be willing to change, and as humans, we aren’t always willing or ready.

Are you ready?

When clients are ready, my favorite question to ask is, “What do you believe about selling?” This question usually uncovers what I like to think of as the “Big One” –that major limiting belief that is holding them back right now from growing their sales. About 90% of the time that belief is around “being pushy.” In other words, the reason they aren’t achieving the sales they desire is because they don’t want to appear to be “too pushy” and scare the client off. Have you ever felt like that?

This is a common belief and we usually address this one at Sales Camp or during private coaching sessions. When I can help a client shift this belief, they will often have some quick successes and I’ll receive an email like the one I mentioned earlier stating, “This ‘stuff’ really works!”

Is this a belief you’d like to change? Or do you have another limiting belief that you feel is keeping you “stuck” and prohibiting you from moving forward in your sales? Take a moment to write your most prominent limiting belief down so I can help you make a shift. The technique that I am going to share with you was developed through Neuro-Linguistic programming. I was taught how to do this at the NLP Institute of California in San Francisco during my NLP certification and coaching program. Although it may seem very simple, it is extremely powerful.

Six Simple Steps to Shift Your Limiting Belief:

1. Write down the limiting belief that you’d like to change.

Example: “I don’t want to be perceived as a “pushy” salesperson.”

2. Write down a short “achieving belief” that you would like to take on in place of the old belief. This new belief should override the old one.

“I am a powerful problem solver and consistently help my clients achieve the results they desire.”

3. Write down three things that aren’t true about the limiting belief that you chose.

4. Close your eyes and in your mind imagine that you have a filing cabinet where you store your old beliefs. It’s a place where you’ve stored all of the beliefs that no longer serve you. These beliefs aren’t bad. They just aren’t useful to you anymore in your business or in your life. Now, imagine that there is a folder all ready to go in the filing cabinet for your old belief. See yourself opening the folder, sliding the old belief into the folder, putting the folder back into the filing cabinet and then sliding the folder back into the filing cabinet. When you close the filing cabinet door, that is the signal to yourself that you have released this belief once and for all.

5. With your eyes closed, say your new belief out loud at least five times. Try it on. What does it feel like to say it out loud?

6. Write down three ways your life and business will be different when you take on this new belief. Write down the new belief somewhere you will see it frequently and continue to practice this new way of “being.”

So, are you committed to being “right” or are you ready to release those old beliefs and create new beliefs that will take you and your business to new heights? I hope you are ready to release the limiting beliefs so you can move forward. I look forward to receiving an email from you that states, “This ‘stuff’ really works!”
