We all have our “stuff,” right? That is to say, nobody – NOBODY – has it all together! We have all experienced our own share of trials, traumas, and challenges. As the saying goes, “That’s life,” right? Of course, it is -it’s just reality! We all have experiences that cause us to have mental baggage that we carry – until we figure out how to unpack and discard it.
Knowing this, would you expect any friend, family member, acquaintance – or business owner – to go about their lives as though they had never experienced any hardship or challenges? Of course not!
So, what does this have to do with sales?
As it turns out, it has a LOT to do with sales. Because no matter the industry, sales involves working with people, and people are not perfect! And despite having “stuff” in our lives, we still need to go about our days, be productive, interact with others, and grow our businesses.
On my last podcast, I interviewed the incredible Nancy Meyer. She gets deep in our conversation and shares some of the very real struggles she had on her own success journey. She shared this particular piece of wisdom with our listeners that I loved:
“Small business ownership is the best therapy in the world.”
I completely agree and I’ve said that for years! But what does it mean?
It means that success is a journey of self-discovery, self-awareness, and self-improvement. Success doesn’t come easily when you’re still lugging around the scars of past traumas. Mental baggage can seriously weigh you down – and in turn, it can slow your progress!
Small business ownership has a knack for revealing all those things that we are still hanging on to. They tend to show up as limiting beliefs that impede your business growth.
But there is good news: Even if you’ve experienced very real traumas, heartbreaks, failures, and hardship, you have the ability to heal yourself to avoid attracting those same situations in the future! Healing is not always easy to go through – and yet it’s extraordinarily simple to shift your frequency and create lasting change for the future!
See, small business can be compared to therapy because not only do you get to experience business success, you tend to experience personal freedom from the mental baggage you’ve been carrying in the process.
Now, I’m not a therapist, and I’m not suggesting that business ownership will solve the world’s problems. Nor am I suggesting that therapy does not have its place in the process of healing from traumatic events.
However, I am suggesting that stepping out of your comfort zone the way you need to in business can bring you to places where you have no choice but to let go of the things that have been holding you back – and that is sometimes a beautiful and scary place to be!
Do you have some baggage holding you back? If this sounds like you, do not miss my show with Nancy! A good way to find out what you’re still carrying that you need to let go of is to examine your limiting beliefs and find where they are rooted. Then, shift them! And you’ll see success in your business like you never imagined.
